Saxman: Oh, Nellie! What a week in politics.

Since civilians:

  1. How would you rate the state of the national economy right now? Notes for the last 12 months.

2. Do you think things in this country are going in the right direction or are they heading in the wrong direction? last 12 months. CORRECT PATH / INCORRECT PATH

As we have discussed in the past, energy prices are pushing up a lot of this feeling:

Energy prices are factored into food prices for several reasons.

And National Republicans are using it to their advantage. To do otherwise would be professional misconduct. #GoWhereTheVotesAre #GetVotesYouDon’tHave.

And it’s working here in Virginia as Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger’s race is now ranked as Throw in the air by the Cook Policy Report. AVU’s Center for Politics ranks VA 7 as a Lean Democrat for now.

Brandon Jarvis of Virginia Scope reports:

Spanberger, Slotkin urge Biden administration to delay lifting Title 42 in a letter including:

While you inherited this problem, it is now your responsibility – with the necessary help from Congress – to fix our broken immigration system,” Spanberger and Slotkin wrote. “Given our national security track record, we know that the executive branch is used to planning for contingencies, and it is for this reason that we submit to you the requests below for the measures to be taken before the Administration does lift the Title 42 ordinance, so that we prevent a humanitarian and security crisis.

Immigration is a growing issue for the Biden administration, and Spanberger’s letter explains what will happen if Title 42 is lifted — “a humanitarian and security crisis” that could make the medium-term forecast worse than current projections.

Sounds like an opportunity for Admin Biden to help out swing-district Democrats like Spanberger, doesn’t it?

Well…apparently Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal of Washington, chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, isn’t progressive enough and progressives, according to this report, are looking to sit out midterms because they don’t have not everything on their wish list and they want title 42 lifted. #EatTheirOwn.

Watch this video outlining the Democrats’ internal issues that will be ripe for their opponents:

Politics is about compromise. The beauty of politics isn’t getting what you want, but what you find out you’re willing to give up to get what you want.

Which reminds me of the great MLB pitcher, Greg Maddux, who would intentionally give opposing hitters the pitches they wanted in order to set them up for failure in future games.

I didn’t intentionally give up a home run, but there are times when you try to get the hitter to hit so you know he’ll be sitting on it the rest of the year,” he said. said Maddux. “…I had a coach who told me what hitters remember, and they remember success. So, [if] they put you on a certain ground, they’re going to sit on it for a long time.

“…I did it mostly in spring training. I think you try to plant a seed in guys’ heads in spring training and try to walk away from it once the season starts.

I realize politics is different, but baseball teaches good lessons for politics. Here are five:

  1. It’s a long season. A grind. Your pace
  2. Pitcher and defense win championships.
  3. The bars are fascists. #CrashDavis
  4. A walk is as good as a hit.
  5. Hit your ground.

IF progressives decide to ditch the Democratic Party and form their own party, they will be trying to fill a growing market desire – namely – a third party with scale and money.

My money is on them pending the current generation of leaders. #CompromiseOrIrony? Both?

Look at the trend line for Third US Party since 2003 according to Gallup. The high point was last year at 62% BEFORE the right track/wrong track numbers (see above) went from NET (-12) to NET (-38).

And what about the GOP if Donald Trump runs again? Maybe a 4th part? We never know.
