FBI raid on former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida is ‘automatically political’, Rep. Dan Crenshaw says, who says Justice Department ‘did not act responsibly’ “.
The Texas Republican appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday, where he was asked about Trump potentially keeping classified information in an unsecured location at his private residence.
“I want to find out the truth,” Crenshaw said. “But I’ll be honest with you here, it’s hard to justify what the Justice Department has done here, in my opinion.”
Crenshaw pointed to Trump’s apparent cooperation with authorities before the FBI raid on Aug. 8, saying he still hadn’t seen any evidence that the former president had been asked to turn over any documents.

“Why take it to this extreme?” Crenshaw asked, suggesting that may be what frustrates Republicans.
The FBI raid, which Crenshaw called “unprecedented,” was related to an investigation into documents Trump allegedly took with him from the White House to his private residence when he left office in January 2021.

Trump claimed that the documents seized by the agents were “all declassified”.
Crenshaw suggested the action against Trump was politically motivated.
“And you know that when you go after an ex-president who could run again, it is automatically political,” said the Republican congressman. “You can’t separate the legal aspects of this from the political aspects. You can’t. And it doesn’t seem to me that they acted responsibly as a result of this.”
