“The administration hereby declares Wednesday of every week as ‘Cycle Day’ for government employees. On this day (i.e. Wednesday of every week), all civil servants/employees ( with the exception of disabled and medical cases) must not use a motor vehicle to get to work and only use non-motorized means of transport such as bicycles in all islands of the UT of Lakshadweep,” the notification reads.
Lakshadweep MP starts political row
Lakshadweep MP Mohammed Faizal PP last week staged an event strike in Kavaratti after he criticized what he saw as the ‘brutal governance’ of the UT administration in the presence of administrator Praful Khoda Patel.
His act sparked a political firestorm with the MP receiving much applause from the majority of the public who joined him.
Lakshadweep has been in turmoil since Patel took office and prompted a series of reforms and cobbled together the COVID-19 protocol at the height of the pandemic last year with little consultation leading to public outrage.
