Amid political and public outrage across Odisha for justice for the family members of late teacher Mamita Meher, the Kalahandi district administration on Wednesday launched an investigation into two homes in Mahalinga middle school. Mamita was a teacher at the same institute.
According to reports, Nirmala Sahu, head of the Child Protection Unit, and other officials under the supervision of Dharmagarh sub-collector Sachin Pawar visited the plus 2 and plus 3 women’s shelters in the college. and checked various documents.
Meanwhile, the Mahalinga College Management Committee today called a meeting of all tutors to discuss their issues. The tutors also met with the sub-collector Pawar and asked him to take the necessary steps to find an alternative accommodation and board arrangement for the college students.
“My daughter is no longer ready to stay at the hostel. There are only two semesters left of his final exam. We asked the sub-collector to order the college authorities to complete the remaining courses through the online mode. The students will only attend these classes and take the exams, ”said a tutor.
The district administration urged the guardians to submit their written complaints and assured them to take the necessary action as soon as possible.
Notably, since day one, several political parties, social organizations and residents of Kalahandi-Bolangir have alleged that a sexual racket was practiced on the premises of the college women’s hostel, and that female students and female staff members had been sexually harassed by the main accused in the Mamita murder case – Gobinda Sahu, who is also the chairman of the college management committee.
There are also allegations that the Minister of State for the Interior, Dibya Shankar Mishra, frequently visited the girls’ home.
