Walker Looks To Cripple Transit System

We all knew that Scott Walker’s 2011 Milwaukee County Budget was going to be ugly, but now we are starting to see exactly how ugly it is going to get.  Due to the facts that Scott Walker couldn’t administer his way out of a brown paper bag, doesn’t understand or doesn’t care about the needs [...]

What Are We Paying Him For Again?

County Supervisor Johnny Thomas issues a scathing press release calling out Scott Walker to move on the economic development positions he wanted to re-create after abolishing it two years ago.

Here is the release in its entirety:

Milwaukee County Supervisor Johnny L. Thomas released the following statement calling on County Executive Scott Walker to fill a [...]

Transit System Loses Another Route

From the Milwaukee BizTimes.com:

Sussex-based Quad/Graphics Inc. has eliminated funding for a Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) bus route that runs from the south side of Milwaukee to the company’s plants in Sussex and Pewaukee.

Without Quad’s funding, Milwaukee County Transit System lacks the funding to continue the route, so it will be eliminated. [...]

Milwaukee Buses Are In For A Bumpy Ride

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported some really scary news the other day regarding the Milwaukee County Transit System:

An estimated $10 million shortfall in the Milwaukee County Transit System’s 2011 budget is fostering renewed worries about possible route cuts, fare increases or trims to the county’s paratransit service for people with disabilities.

Higher operating [...]

The Necessity of Transit

We already know that the state legislature left Madison without doing one of the most vital things needed for the economic situation in Milwaukee County, which was to allow us to have a dedications funding source for our transit and parks systems.

There are still some in Milwaukee County’s group of legislators that remember that their [...]

Our Local Crack(Pot) Media

When there was discussion of putting bike racks on the buses, despite overwhelming evidence that these bike racks were working and working well in other communities, there were some factions that were dead set against it, just because it was a progressive idea and people liked it.

They put the racks on the buses last summer [...]

The Bleak Future of MCTS

With Scott Walker showing indifference to the Milwaukee County Transit System (unless he thinks he can score some cheap political points), and the state legislature playing politics with our livelihoods, the future of MCTS looks very bleak indeed.

How bad is it?

BizTimes.com did an article on this.  It’s going to be very bad:

Some officials say the [...]

Scott Walker: A Sudden Interest in Mass Transit?

In this week’s version of the Executive Update that Scott Walker sends out, it appears that his focus is suddenly on our transit system.  Here is what he had to say:

As you can see, his focus is indeed on our transit system, but his motivation is obvious.  The only reason he is showing any sort [...]

Happy Birthday, MCTS!

Milwaukee County’s mass transit system turns 150 years old this year.  To celebrate, Supervisors Dimitrijevic and Larson are announcing that Northwestern Mutual is sponsoring free rides on Route 15 this Friday.  From their press release:

Milwaukee County Supervisors Marina Dimitrijevic and Chris Larson will celebrate the Milwaukee County Transit System’s 150th birthday on Friday. Route 15 [...]

Walker Won’t Commit to the Airport or the Zoo

Today was the first of Scott Walker’s non-listening sessions.  There were about 50-60 people there.  At least a third of them were Walker’s staffers.  The other large majority were senior citizens.  The rest of the crowd consisted of social advocates, union members as well as Supervisors Larson, West and Borkowski.

To my surprise, for the first [...]
