Walker’s Furlough Campaign Stunt Costs Milwaukee County More Than $4.5 Million

Dan Bice of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is reporting that the pay out for the furloughs then Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker illegally imposed on County workers in 2010 has come to $4.5 million.  That number includes $829,999 from the interest which was ordered by the Wisconsin Employment Relations Board.

Bice also reports that the [...]

Budgetary Déjà Vu

When Scott Walker was Milwaukee County Executive, he would annually claim a huge deficit, then lay off workers or impose illegal furloughs.  Then when that year’s budget numbers were finalized, lo and behold, he’d have a surplus almost to the penny “saved” by the cuts to the workers.

The clearest example is when he claimed [...]

Three Supervisors + Two Executives = One Expensive Mess

Scott Walker, as county executive, did a fine job of making Milwaukee County into a disaster zone all by himself.  He let the parks fall into ruin.  He started the transit system down a long spiral towards its doom.  There was the way he disrespected and did a great disservice to the mentally ill, the [...]

One Expensive Bus Ride

WISN-TV is reporting that a man was fined $484 for uttering two cuss words on the bus:

“I cursed, and it cost me $500. Are you serious? Where in America do you get charged $500 for two words?” Terry Duncan said.

“I said, ‘What do I get this ticket for? What did I do wrong?’ [...]

Mr. Walker, About That Money You Owe Us…

As most people are already aware, Scott Walker had spent the last several years in campaign mode as he strove to become governor of Wisconsin.  Every move he made was calculated in regards to what would be the most beneficial to said campaign.  If the decision happened to also be in the public’s best interest, [...]

Supervisors Fear A Walker Double-Cross

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is reporting that the Milwaukee County Board is nervous about next year’s budget.  They should be worried, for more reasons than one:

Milwaukee County supervisors Monday glumly assessed their prospects for getting any financial help from the state with County Executive Scott Walker about to take over as governor and Republicans [...]

Mental Health Complex To Get Help Soon…Maybe

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is reporting that there may be some much needed changes in the near future for the much beleaguered and belabored mental health complex.

After Scott Walker formally abdicates his position of county executive (in contrast to the last eight years when he only informally abdicated this position), Chairman Lee Holloway will [...]

The Painful Exodus

In the pre-pension scandal days, when the county used to start feeling a budget squeeze, they would open a retirement window.  This would allow some of the more senior employees retire earlier than they might have otherwise.

The reason for the retirement windows were to save money.

Instead of paying a high salaried worker their [...]

Another Year, Another Illegal Deficit Budget

The County Board had their votes today on Scott Walker’s vetoes for the 2011 budget.  Expectations, based on the Boards original votes, were that the Board would override very few of the vetoes.  In a surprising turn of events, the Board actually overrode 11 out of 15 of Walker’s vetoes.

The Board voted to override [...]

Veto Override Votes On Wednesday

The Milwaukee County Board is meeting tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 pm to vote on Scott Walker’s vetoes from their proposed budget.

Here is a digest of the vetoes which they will be voting on.

One of the most important ones to watch is the contingency fund vote.  The Board had added a lot of money [...]
