Here is the 4th Street Forum’s show about the budget crisis that Scott Walker and the County Board has led us into:
It takes about an hour, but it is rather interesting. Please note that near the end, Supervisor Patricia Jursik admits that they passed a deficit budget, which, of course, is against the law.
This is an interresting discussion. I do have a problem with Mr. Baas, the representative from the MMAC. Mr. Baas asks why his neighbor, who does not play golf, should subsidise his passion for the game through his property taxes going to Milwaukee Countys golf courses. This is not a valid arguement. I did not attend public schools, I do not have children attending public schools, should I pay for my neighbor to send his children to public schools? Yes I should, a public school system as well as public parks and a transit system benefits the community as a whole and raises the quality of life for everyone in the community.
The golf courses operated by the Milwaukee County Parks actually generate about $6 million in revenue which actually supports other programs and activities in the parks which Mr. Baas’ neighbor may enjoy on a regular basis without having to pay any fee for.
