The latest issue of the Shepherd Express asks some of the right questions about the local transit situation. Specifically, they wonder if a sales tax could rescue local transit.
Remember that the people of Milwaukee County voted by a large margin in favor of having a sales tax in order to pay for transit, as well as parks and emergency services. A modified tax increase was ironed into the state budget at the last minute, but Gov. Doyle then vetoed it. That is why we are calling upon the state legislature and the governor to honor the will of the people of Milwaukee County, and give us what we said we wanted. And that is why we ask you to sign our petition telling the state government to do that.
