Milwaukee Ald. Donovan: Study of consolidation or merger of municipal governments

See his press release on WisPolitics: “Milwaukee Ald. Donovan: File urges study of consolidation or merger of city, county, & MPS services & agencies”

Performing a consolidation or merger of local government bodies is a prime idea and bears immediate consideration. The long drumbeat for “less government” often drowns out the intelligent consideration of this [...]

Even McIlheran agrees: Milwaukee's buses need sufficient funding.

And I quote:

“Milwaukee’s buses need sufficient funding.”

That’s remarkable! The one remaining daily paper’s right-wing editorializor agrees that the bus system needs sufficient funding. At least we are in agreement on that.

With veto pen, Walker to make County less desirable place to live and work

Last night was the first time I had attended a public hearing on the Milwaukee County budget. While driving in to Washington Park, I was struck by the sheer number of cars parked along the street and in the parking lots. It was evident that a lot of people had come to speak, or at [...]

"Save Koscuizko Community Center & Pelican Cove Pool Fundraiser"

Rather than allow the beloved Koscuizko Community Center and Pelican Cove Pool to be closed at will by the county executive, the people of Milwaukee’s near west side have taken it upon themselvse to save their community’s resources. Here’s the text from their event’s Facebook page:

According to the Journal Sentinel, the County Board was able to devote $500,000 for the construction of a “30-unit housing development for low-income residents with mental illness.”

The money for this came from a $2 million trust fund that the county had created for the purpose of aiding the county’s neediest residents.

This is a welcome change [...]

WUWM 89.7-FM had reporter Marti Mikkelson on hand, and she filed [...]
